Wedding confetti! How to nail your confetti photos...

There's something undeniably wonderful about confetti at weddings – the joy, emotion and, of course, the actual confetti! It's that moment when you walk hand in hand as a newly married couple through a line of your loved ones, and your guests shower you with colourful confetti, creating an atmosphere of jubilation and celebration.

But, as you plan your big day you might find yourself pondering an important question: Should we bother with confetti at our wedding? If we do have it, what kind of confetti should we choose? Should we opt for the traditional elegance of natural petals and leaves or embrace the bold, colourful style of biodegradable paper confetti? Where shall we get it from? Have no fear, I can guide you through all these questions.. Let me help you to create amazing confetti photos with my top tips and advice.

If you're asking yourself whether you should bother having confetti at all, the answer will always be YES, YOU SHOULD! I'm a huge fan of it and it's definitely one of my favourite parts to capture on a wedding day - it brings with its floaty-ness wonderfully natural and candid moments of you and your guests enjoying the day; allowing me to capture everyone mid emotion, smile and laugh which is what I love to photograph the most. It also adds extra 'entertainment' to your day for your guests.

As a starting point, it's very important to check with your venue or church about their policies on confetti. Some venues allow any type which include glitter and sequins, whilst others are more particular about only using eco friendly (biodegradable) or furthermore just natural flowers. Adhering to this is essential as you don't want to be pissing anyone off on your wedding day!

Next, have a think about what sort of impact and photos you want from your confetti moments; are you looking for a big colourful impact in your wedding gallery or more of a subtle, sophisticated vibe?

Let's take a look at the options and photos... starting with biodegradable paper -

In recent years, biodegradable paper confetti has emerged as a popular alternative to natural petals. Made from eco-friendly materials such as recycled paper or rice paper, this type of confetti offers several advantages, including...

1) Coming in a variety of shapes and colours allowing you to match the colours to your chosen wedding colour scheme

2) Fitting into the eco-friendly category as the paper breaks down in the rain over time, minimising its environmental impact

3) Being a little more budget friendly compared to the expense of natural petals

4) Making a bold and colourful statement in your wedding photos with it's larger size

5) Paper is lighter than petals so it stays in the air for longer which creates a longer lasting confetti effect, perfect for mid line kisses and other photo opportunities

If you think this is the sort of confetti you'd like to have, check out these places to buy it. My preferred online companies to buy biodegradable paper confetti are @yourconfetti or @flutterdarlings, because their beautifully bold and colourful paper makes such a great impact in photos. What about natural flowers and petals?

There's a timeless charm to natural petals that adds an element of romance and sophistication to any wedding, bringing a touch of nature's beauty to your celebration. A few more reasons to have natural flowers...

1) The softer hues and delicate textures can perfectly compliment pastel coloured wedding themes.

2) They are a popular choice because the petals decompose naturally and quickly, leaving no residue behind - perfect for couples who are more eco and environmentally conscious.

3) Having natural petals can give the impression of luxury and a high-end wedding style

4) No artificial dyes in the petals

TIP: When opting for natural petal confetti, it's important to source larger petals rather than smaller 'dusty' style petal shavings - you want to create an impact within your moments and your photos, so the confetti can actually be seen. Cheaper, small confetti will show up as looking like dust or a swarm of flies round your face, rather than actual petals which can not only look a bit odd but also gets into your eyes and mouth resulting in strange grimace faces and the want to look down at the ground, rather than up-facing joyful and happy ones! See below the differences...

The best natural confetti I have found to date, that has larger petals and creates the most impact is from @Signetconfetti, featured in the first of the 3 images above. Ask me about a 15% discount here too!

Alternatively to either of those, you could do a bubble walk instead...

To create the best impact with bubbles, you need a couple of bubble guns and a couple of members of the bridal party to follow you down the down on the outside so there are lots and lots of bubbles! Then you can have a bubble fight after...

Now you've decided that you're having confetti and had an insight into what you might like, it's time to move on to

HOW TO NAIL YOUR PHOTOS...!

Top tip 1: Buy lots of confetti, enough for a decent handful for each person. The best photos are the ones that create impact! If you think you've got enough... you probably haven't so you should buy a bit more!

Top tip 2: TAKE YOUR TIME! Don't rush down the confetti line to get it over with, take your time and make the most of the celebration with your guests. This will help your photographer get the best shots as well.

Top tip 3: As you walk hand in hand, look up at the falling confetti, your guests and each other, enjoying every second of your confetti walk. It sounds silly to say that, but the majority of couples end up looking down at the ground because they're shy or worried about tripping. DON'T LOOK DOWN AT THE GROUND! Embrace the moments.

Another top tip is to stop half way down your walk and have a kiss or look at each other. Doing this can add variety in your confetti photos.

Above all, bring the vibes! The more happy, animated and big smiling vibes you bring, the more your guests will react, cheer and engage which ultimately makes for better photos. Photographs can't hear sound, but they can visualise animation and emotion.

Let me know if this post has helped you, and as always ask if you have any questions!

Love, Steph x
